Joy’s Stages of Life: January 2012: Person to Watch

The person to watch in 2012 would be the President of the United States, Barack Obama.  He always makes excellent speeches which inspire our citizens.  During his first term in office, he has worked hard to improve our country.  He desperately wants everyone to have health insurance, so he did not give up on healthcare reform.

One of the most important events of his administration occurred in May 2011 when he announced that the leader of the 9/11 attacks, Osama Bin Laden, had been assassinated by the U.S. Army and the Navy SEALS.  The reason that he should be watched in 2012 is because he will be extremely busy trying to enact important bills, stand against the congress, improve the economy, and bring the soldiers home from Afghanistan.  He will also be running for re-election against the Republican nominee.  This election year will be quite challenging.

The President will have to find a balance between performing his presidential duties in addition to campaigning for re-election.  One of his new projects will be to reduce the number of government agencies.  He wants to combine the operations of six major agencies that focus on business and trade.  They are the Commerce Department’s core business and trade functions, the Small Business Administration, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Export-Import Bank, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, and the Trade and Development Agency.  The goal would be one agency designed to help business thrive.

As with our previous presidents, Barack Obama is one of the most important people of the United States.  The economic problems that he must deal with are similar to those that Franklin D. Roosevelt faced during the Great Depression.  Even though being president is a difficult job, Mr. Obama is trying his best to help our great nation.
